Damn, I need to stop buying books until I can create a better reading schedule.  I currently have 10 books to read when I’m done with the one I’m currently on. Word to the wise: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is not a quick read, despite quotes on the book jacket stating otherwise. I picked it up so I’d have something quick to read at a lakehouse. It’s a month later and I still dredging through it. It’s just not an engaging enough read to invest long reading sessions on it.

I also had this crazy idea to do 52 book reviews a year, each one centering around a 52 second YouTube video. But then I realized I’d have to devote almost all my spare time to reading, which I’m not willing to commit to.

Read: The Wild Trees – A quick non-fiction read for the summer. I burnt through in two weekends. Part of my love for this book is that I can totally see these people who explore giant trees being much like my friends.

Listen: The National – Boxer – The is music to listen to with the windows and sunroof open as you drive around the country at 3 in the morning. Dark. Deep. Haunting at points.

Watch: Knocked Up – Jesus Christ, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, you’re cheating yourself of the smartest comedy in months (if not years).

This is also going to be a good week for movies. I’m seeing a midnight show of Live Free or Die Hard tomorrow, a midnight showing of Ratatouille Thursday night, and then Sicko Friday or Saturday night.

P.S. T-Minus 5 days until no more meat. Stocked up on loads of fake meat tonight in preparation. Only a few more chicken wings left in the freezer before my apartment is meat free.

So I’m going to go Vegetarian for July. I figure this way it gives me a week to get rid of the meat in my fridge (no temptation and no waste), as well as prepare for a new diet.

As for my reasoning, no I’m not going vegetarian for ‘ethical’ reasons. PETA still pisses me off way too much. I’m still a big believer in the food chain, and as the dominant predator on Earth, we can eat as we please. Instead, I’m doing it for health reasons and just for a change of pace. I want to lose some weight and trim up, so I figure a vegetarian diet will be a good way to go. I’ll re-evaluate at the end of next month.

So tonight I had my pitching debut for our softball team. Our normal pitcher was out, so I got drafted. 5 innings, 12 runs, 1 strike out, and no walks. That is one of our best pitching performances. Ever. First time we never walked anybody. Also, for our co-ed team, this is the first time we’ve got more than 3 innings. So I feel pretty good for a 12-0 loss.

Always look on the briiiiight siiide of life.

So I just got my theater system hooked up. I’m now watching West Wing (Season 4 – Game On) upsampled to 1080i hi-def, a beer in my hand, a package of oreos next to me, and a nicely rolled joint ready to go. Sometimes I just fucking love life.

Now I just need a wall mounted shelf for my center speaker and a rug to cover the rear speaker wires. Then it’s on to pictures and art.

Womens College Softball World Series  = Hot

My softball team = Not

I really should have gone to more softball games at KU.

So I got up early this morning and ran the Susan G Komen 5K (3.1 miles for you Yanks). Damn, that shit is tiring. I had been trying to get on the treadmill to practice, but life kept getting in the way. I hadn’t completed 3.1 miles until last night. Luckily, this morning was great. Having a few thousand people around really keeps you in rhythm. I did it in 38 minutes, which I felt really good about. My target was 45 minutes. But damn, now I’m quite tired and this is normally the time I would be waking up. I feel like it’s 3 in the afternoon instead of 10:30 in the morning. I’m going to try to find a 10K and run that later this summer. I’ve also got a bike race next Saturday to deal with, so I’m either going to be in really good shape or dead by the end of the summer if I keep on this pace.
